CST 311 Weekly Journal #2

 Weekly Journal

This week I learned about the basic principles of network applications and the fundamental protocols like HTTP, SMTP, and DNS. For example, I explored how these protocols communicated between clients, servers, and client-server models. In addition, I got to get a better understanding of the concept of protocol layers and how they work in Internet architecture. It was interesting to see how data travels through different layers and how each contributes overall to make everything process correctly. Furthermore, I got a better understanding of how Peer-to-Peer applications differ from the traditional client-server model, emphasizing the direct sharing of resources between peers. Lastly, using Mininet, I emulated two client-server applications—Web and DNS—providing practical experience in network emulation. I then went on to examine HTTP traffic using Wireshark, which allowed me to analyze network traffic at a detailed level and better understand the inner workings of HTTP communications. All in all, this week was assignments and readings were very interesting to learn and fun to do as well when I got the end results testing everything out. I felt like it really helped mew with learning more about the basics of networking.
